It is hard to believe that another month has come and gone. We only have about a
month left in the regular season of rodeo. The season ends on Sept. 30, but our
money won in Dallas will count toward our world standings. The last few weeks,
things have started to fall into place for me. I am currently sixth in the world
with $65,508 and hoping to keep climbing up the charts because that is what I
do.
When I last wrote, we were getting ready to head to Dodge City, Kan., for the
final stop on the 2007 Wrangler ProRodeo Tour. Bradley and I didn't have much
luck but my brother Heith found success. He finished fifth in the first round
with an 80 and then tied for second in the Tour round with an 84. In the end, he
tied for third in the average with 164 points on two head and won checks
totaling $2,911.
Before heading to Caldwell we hit the rodeos in Hermiston, Ore., and Sikeston,
Mo. Heith won the rodeo in Hermiston with an 87-point ride and I tied for fourth
in Sikeston with a score of 80.
It was then off to Caldwell (Idaho) for the first Ariat Playoff. The first
couple of rounds in Caldwell were good for me. I tied for second in the first
round with a score of 85 points, and I won the second round with an 86.
Unfortunately for me, they put some colts (young horses) in the semifinal round
in Caldwell and they marked me in the 70s with no option of a re-ride. Of course
that wasn't enough to get me into the final round and ended my hopes of winning
Caldwell. I am currently third in the Tour standings with $37,810, Bradley
(Harter) is 11th with $22,270, and Heith is 19th with $13,328, so we have all
qualified for Puyallup, which will be Sept. 7-9.
After not making the final round in Caldwell, I headed to Canby, Ore., where I
rode Growney Brothers' Painted Feathers for 87 points and won the rodeo picking
up $3,677. So all in all it was a good weekend for me.
I got my saddle fixed the first part of August and since then things have really
been rolling for me. My saddle feels much better now and I am riding with a lot
of confidence, so I am looking forward to rodeo's homestretch.
Between now and Puyallup, we will be hitting rodeos mostly in the northwest. We
will be hitting the rodeos in Ellensburg, Wash., and Walla Walla, Wash., before
sneaking over to Fort Madison, Iowa, for their rodeo on the 6th. After competing
there, we will head back to Puyallup for the Ariat Playoffs.
Other than that things are good and we continue to tear up the road going from
rodeo to rodeo. Hope everyone has had a good summer.
