DeMoss wins $100,000 round at Calgary Stampede

Heflin, La. --July 15, 2007-- Saddle bronc rider Cody DeMoss was smiling a little wider Sunday afternoon after collecting the $100,000 check that goes to the champion of the 2007 Calgary Stampede.

DeMoss, of Heflin, La., captured his first Calgary Stampede title with an 82.5-point ride, making it the richest eight-second ride of his career.

"Man it feels great to win this," DeMoss said. "Calgary is such a great rodeo with good stock and unbelievable money. Words can't describe how I feel right now."

DeMoss didn't have the shortest of trips to the title but none-the-less he came out on top. In the first round he scored 79.5 points on Brownie Delight to finish third in the round. He returned the next day to post an 80.5 on Slingshot to finish fifth in the second round. He posted a 76 in the third round to finish sixth and received a no score in the fourth round, forcing him to have to ride one more to advance to Showdown Sunday.

On Wild Card Saturday, he tied for second on a horse named Frost Bite after posting an 83.5. With the finish, he advanced to the semifinal round on Sunday. In the semifinal round, he rode Bonus Alley for 88.5 points and a spot in the Showdown round. There he was matched against 2005 World Champion Jeffery Willert, world standings leader Rusty Allen and Canadian Rod Hay.

When the dust had settled it was DeMoss atop the leaderboard with a score of 82.5 points. Willert finished second with an 81 and Allen and Hay were both bucked off and received a no score.

DeMoss picked up a total of $107,500 while in Calgary. The Calgary Stampede is not a PRCA sanctioned rodeo so the money won will not count toward the ProRodeo Cowboys World Standings but the momentum he gained will carry him a long ways in the upcoming PRCA rodeos.
