I thought I had better update my fans on what has been
going on with me the last couple months. For one I can't believe it is almost
June. I have been hitting rodeos here and there but have been spending most of
my time working on the house we have been building here in Louisiana. We have it
about done and Margie is anxious to move in. We just have a few inside doors
left and then the carpet guys should be here next week to get that all done. If
all goes well, we will be able to get moved in before I head out for the summer
rodeo run.
In March, my brother Heith and I shot a commercial for the Shreveport-Bossier
Convention and Tourist Bureau. On April 3, they officially unveiled their new
brand and identity which is now Louisiana's Other Side. We were thrilled and
honored to be part of their campaign. In addition to Heith and me, they also
taped advertisements with area natives such as Kix Brooks, James Burton, Todd
Walker, Tim Brando, Eugene Mosley and Chef Giuseppe Brucia. I have had several
people in the area say they have seen the commercial and they really liked it
and there is a billboard with me on it in town. It is all pretty cool. For those
that don't live in this area you can check out their new website:
http://louisianasotherside.com
where you will see a picture of me and my horse.
I would like to thank the marketing team for including my brother and me, in
their advertising for this area. I would also encourage everyone to take some
time to visit Shreveport, La.
The other exciting news I would like to share with
you is that in a few weeks Texas bareback rider Chris Harris and I will depart
for Africa for an invitation only roughstock competition. I leave on June 11 and
will get back sometime around the 17th. I am really looking forward to this as I
have never done anything quite like it. Basically, I will compete in the saddle
bronc riding against someone from Australia, Canada, and Mexico I believe. It
will be a four-day event in which we will get on a total of four head. The
winner gets $30,000 and second place gets $20,000. They pay for our travel over
there and we get a certain amount for just showing up, so it is a win-win.
It all came together when a guy bought Chris Harris' herd of bucking horses. The
guy shipped them to Brazil and then on to Africa for this event. Chris asked me
if I would be interested and after he gave me the details and told me how much
money was on the line, I said "Heck, yah. I'll go." I am really looking forward
to it. I guess it is about a 17 hour flight over there, so I am not really
looking forward to that but the rest should be fun. Hopefully, Chris and I will
come back winners. I will try to take some photos and post to my site when I get
back. I will be sure to update you at that time about the experience.
I have updated my schedule with the rodeos I plan
on competing at for the next month, which isn't many since I will be in Africa
for a week or so. I will try and get my July schedule up as soon as I get back
from Africa.
I would like to thank my sponsors AT&T and Cinch
for their continued support and would ask each of you to support these
outstanding companies.
Thanks for reading and wish me luck in Africa.
